The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Rwanda, in conjunction with the Mastercard Foundation, recently held an empowering career information session for all FAWE Mastercard Foundation (MCF) Scholars at the University of Rwanda. This crucial workshop aimed to support the students in crafting meaningful career plans and equipping them with the necessary tools to excel in their future careers.

The session took place at the Senetra Hotel, Kabuga on 25th May 2023, following the scholars’ arrival the previous evening. It provided an opportunity for the scholars to gain invaluable insights about potential career paths, explore various career options, and develop relevant skills and competencies. The workshop was divided into two key segments – Career Planning and Industry Insights – ensuring comprehensive coverage of all pertinent areas.

The Career Planning section introduced the scholars to the concept and significance of career planning, aided them in identifying their interests and strengths, helped them explore career options, and imparted knowledge about the job market.

The second segment, Industry Insights, offered an overview of different industries and career paths. It also highlighted industry-specific skills, emerging trends, and opportunities, and provided useful tips for job searching and interviewing.

The workshop was designed to be participatory, encouraging scholars to actively engage, contribute, and exchange ideas. The students worked in groups, enabling them to discuss their perspectives on various career paths and voice their concerns about transitioning into the professional world.

Through the workshop, FAWE Rwanda sought to enhance career awareness among the scholars, increase their confidence in job search and professional development, and motivate them to explore diverse career paths. By focusing on the importance of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, the workshop further prepared the scholars for the demands of the modern job market.

The successful conclusion of the career information session marked another stride in FAWE Rwanda’s mission to support girls’ education and empower them for future success. The scholars, equipped with new insights and knowledge, now face the future with increased confidence and preparedness, ready to build successful careers in their respective fields.
