FAWE Rwanda with support from UN Women Rwanda established a Rwanda Career Women’s Centre in 2020 with the aim of improving women’s participation in the labor market. This is done through equipping young women with the necessary life skills to access employment and or create profitable business. The center provides leadership and entrepreneurship skills training, sexual reproductive health and right awareness, digital literacy skills as well as coaching and mentorship.

FAWE plans to reach 1200 young women and girls in the next 3 years (2021-2023) , with a total budget of USD 2,823,491. FAWE is privileged to partner with the government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, and among others as well as United Nations entities, international organizations, civil society organizations, youth and women-led organizations, and the private sector. These partners will be strategically selected based on their technical expertise, and ability to influence decisions at the policy level.

In 2020, UN Women provided funds that equipped the center with facilities for training including computers, projectors, furniture and trainees. As a result of this support, La Francophonie came on board as a new partner and as a result, one hundred and seventy-six (176) young women were trained in entrepreneurship, sexual reproductive health and right, digital literacy skills (ICDL) and mentorship.

UN Women also financially supported 31 young women in training in digital literacy skills, leadership skills, entrepreneurship, sexual reproductive health, and rights. As a result of this support, La Francophonie, MasterCard Foundation and Rwanda Governance Board in collaboration with UNDP, came on board to support this initiative. La Francophonie provided for training 30 young women in digital literacy skills, leadership skills, entrepreneurship, sexual reproductive health and rights as well as coaching and mentoring. MasterCard Foundation supported 139 young women in the same training and also supported the with small startup funds to start their own businesses. Rwanda Governance Board in partnership with UNDP supported the training of 25 young women and Five (5) young men.

By May 2022, altogether, two hundred and thirty (220) trainees mainly young women were trained in entrepreneurship, sexual reproductive health and right, and digital literacy skills (ICDL). Among the two hundred and thirty (230), One hundred and twenty-five (125) are employed (got jobs after the training) or self-employed especially those supported in partnership with MasterCard Foundation who started their own businesses
